How To Play Mahjong Solitaire

Mahjong solitaire or MahJong solitaire also known as Shanghai solitaire, single-player mahjong or one-player mahjong, is a solitaire matching game that uses a set of Mahjong tiles.

About Mahjong Solitaire

Mahjong Solitaire has become one of the most popular games in the world because of its simple rules and engaging game play.

The Chinese block game Mahjong may be played as a group or by oneself. If you go solo, the game is called Mahjong Solitaire.

Cards layout

The 144 tiles are placed in a special four-layer pattern with their faces upwards. A tile is said to be exposed if it can be moved either left or right without disturbing other tiles. Tiles that are below other tiles cannot be seen. Sometimes, tiles are only partially covered by other tiles, and the extent to which such tiles can be differentiated depends on the actual tileset.

Mahjong Rules

The 144 tiles are arranged in special layouts with their faces upwards. A tile that can be moved left or right without disturbing other tiles is said to be exposed. Exposed pairs of identical tiles are removed from the layout one at a time, gradually exposing the lower layers to play. The aim of the game is to clear the layout by pairing up all the tiles. The game is finished when either the layout is empty, or there are no exposed pairs remaining.
